About the Department

The Department of Home Science was established in 1985. The Department offers post-graduation in 3 subjects i.e., Foods and Human Nutrition, Human Development and Family, and Development Communication and Extension, Ph.D. programmes in fived is ciplines, namely, Foods and Human Nutrition, Human Development and Family, Development Communication and Extension, Clothing and Textiles, and Family Resource Management. The undergraduate courses include B.Sc. Home Science and B.A. Home Science as asubject are offered at University Maharani College.The Department also offers a Certificate Course in Public Health Nutrition (SFS). The admission in M.Sc. as well as in Ph.D. programmes takes place through the entrance examination scond uctedcentrally by the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. The Department has received UGCSAPDRSI from 2010-2015 and UGC SAP DRS II from 2016-2021. UNagencies like UNICEF support the Department of Home Science as one of its close and active partners to provide technical supported developmental programmes. UNICEF, Rajasthan has recognized the Department as State Centre of Excellence (SCoE) for Nutrition in July 2019. The Department has received three major research ProjectsunderRUSA2.0 worth Rs.3.6 crores. The Department is engaged in community out reach project sincoll aboration with various Government Departments, Non-Government organizations and International Agencies such as UNICEF, UNFPA, DWCD, NHM, CARE, DST, Prayas in the are aofnutrition and health of women, children, adolescents, adults, and elderly, clinical nutrition, waste management, human development, exceptional children, apparel designing for special needs, innovative textile designing, etc. The Department has an Alumni Association which was established in the Department in 2000. The alumni have been working as dietitians, consultants, and counsellors in various government and non-government organizations (NGOs), as teachers and entrepreneurs.
